Beyond the Classroom
At DISV, we believe that learning does not stop at the classroom door. Our Elementary students benefit from a rich programme of real-world experiences that connect their in-school learning to the wider world of Vienna, Austria, and beyond.
Field Trips in Vienna
Vienna is one of the world's great cities — and it is our classroom. Elementary classes take regular field trips to museums, galleries, historical sites, markets, and nature areas throughout the city. These visits are carefully linked to current units of inquiry, giving children direct, memorable encounters with the ideas they are exploring in school.
Residential Camps
Older Elementary students have the opportunity to participate in residential camps in the Austrian countryside. These multi-day experiences build independence, teamwork, and resilience while deepening friendships across the year group. Students return from camp with new skills, shared memories, and a stronger sense of community.
Forest School Experiences
Our youngest learners regularly take their learning outdoors through forest school sessions. Open-ended play in natural settings develops creativity, problem-solving, and a love of the natural world — experiences that complement and enrich everything happening inside the classroom.
Learning in the Real World
Whether visiting a local community garden to explore sustainability, attending a theatre production to understand storytelling, or meeting professionals whose work connects to a unit of inquiry, our students see that learning is not confined to books and screens. Real-world encounters inspire authentic questions and lasting understanding.
