Beyond the Classroom

At DISV, education reaches far beyond the timetable. Our Secondary students engage in a rich programme of activities, expeditions, and community engagement that develop the whole person and bring the IB's values to life.

CAS in the Diploma Programme

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core requirement of the IB Diploma Programme. Every DP student undertakes a programme of CAS experiences that challenge them to grow as individuals, contribute to their community, and reflect on their learning outside the classroom. CAS is not just a box to tick — it is an opportunity to discover passions, develop leadership, and make a genuine difference.

  • Creativity — arts, music, drama, and other creative pursuits that develop imagination and expression
  • Activity — sports, outdoor education, and physical challenges that develop fitness and resilience
  • Service — meaningful community action, volunteer work, and projects addressing real needs locally and globally

Residential Trips and Expeditions

Secondary students participate in a programme of residential trips and expeditions that take learning into the real world. From ski camps in the Austrian Alps to cultural study trips across Europe, these experiences build independence, intercultural awareness, and lifelong memories.

Model United Nations

DISV students participate in Model United Nations (MUN) conferences both at school and across Europe, developing research, public speaking, negotiation, and leadership skills in an authentic simulation of global diplomacy.

Community Service Projects

From partnering with local Viennese organisations to supporting international humanitarian causes, our students take action on issues that matter to them. Community service is woven into school life across Secondary, with student-led initiatives that reflect the IB's commitment to making the world a better place.

Artistic Productions

Secondary students have the opportunity to participate in annual school productions — full-scale musical and dramatic performances that showcase the extraordinary creative talent of our community and bring students, teachers, and families together.
