Learning Support

At DISV, we are committed to inclusive education across all year groups. Our Secondary School Learning Support team ensures that students with specific learning needs can access the full rigour of the IB programmes and achieve their potential, with the appropriate support and adjustments in place.

Our Approach

Our Learning Support specialists collaborate closely with subject teachers, form tutors, and parents to identify students who may require additional support. Following a thorough assessment of each student's strengths and needs, we develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with clearly defined goals and strategies, reviewed regularly as the student progresses.

Support may be delivered through in-class differentiation, small group sessions, or one-to-one work with a specialist — or a combination of these, depending on the student's needs and the demands of their current programme. In Secondary School, support is carefully designed to build independence and self-advocacy, helping students develop the metacognitive skills they need for success in the MYP and DP.

IB Accommodations

For students with formally documented learning differences, DISV works with the IB to arrange appropriate access arrangements for internal and external assessments. These accommodations — which may include extra time, separate rooms, or modified formats — are applied for on an individual basis and must be supported by up-to-date professional assessments. Our team guides families through this process and coordinates directly with the IB on students' behalf.

Partnership with Families

Open communication with families is central to our approach. We hold regular meetings to review progress, discuss strategies, and update learning plans in response to evolving needs. Parents are always welcome to contact our Learning Support team with questions or to discuss their child's progress at any time.
